McDonalds I here you say !
Is this guy for real or is he insane !
Did he really spend 4 years training only to walk away from it and go and flip burgers for a living !
Well theres a little more to it than that but yes in essence I did exactly that although I might add that being paid 17k a year in the early 90’s to flip burgers shouldn’t be sniffed at.
Truth be told I’m a people person and all I could see in electronics was a lonely working life, McDonalds however offered me a good wage and the social interaction I needed at that time in my life. Well I stuck it out at McDonalds for 6 years went through various relationships with ups and downs and did somethings I’m not so proud of but had a whole lotta fun as well.
So Ron what did you do next ?
Well this will make you laugh, well it would if you were to look at my personal finances , I went and worked for Black Horse Financial Services !!!
Oh my bad first I had a year as a trainee manager with Blockbuster Video but that didn’t pan out because their massive expansion global takeover bid never came to anything so they got stuck with a surplus of managers and no new stores to put them in and I got Bored.
Well the financial advice job was ok while I was training I aced the training passing with 98% overall and man there is a lot to learn and remember. However when push came to shove it is not in my nature to hard sell and that is what I was being asked to do ! So that lasted a year or so . Then I did a stint with a direct financial marketing company and decided to cut my losses and head for warmer a warmer climate ( The Canary Isles) to make my fortunes and live in the sun.
Sounds Great Ron how did that go ?
Well I managed 2 weeks before the money ran out and I had no work so I used my return ticket to get back to blighty and ended up staying at my parents house. I chilled out for a couple of weeks and did some work around my parents house to earn my keep such as hedge pruning and patio laying.
But I realised at 28 yrs old I should probably look at getting myself a job. I scoured the local paper and got myself an interview for a bar job in a local nightclub I got it ! My intention was to use it as a stop gap while I worked out what I really wanted to do ! As it turned out I had an apptitude for the licensed trade and one thing led to another and suddenly I was working in 4 different pubs and a tenant saw something in me that made him want me to run one of his Pubs in Leicester.
So I took him up on his offer and settled into running a city centre Pub !
This is where it all started to change for me !
