So you want to know how I got on when I first discovered the Internet ?
Well are you sitting comfortably !
I’ll start with a little background as to my computer skills.
If you’ve read previous chapters to find out who I am and what makes me tick then you will already know that my first real job was a 4 year apprenticeship with the MOD in electronics. Well apart from having family home computers and some exposure at school this is where I was first introduced to computers in a work environment. As part of my apprenticeship I attended a local college and took studies in electronics and computer technology where I learned the fine arts of basic programming in pascal and fortran, (haha remember all those ). Well that was my basic grounding in computers as I went through my working life I was exposed to varies computers and there functions and mastered them all easily.
Don’t get me wrong I’m no computer whizz I just pick things up really easily and rarily need to be told how to do something a second time.
Anyway it was in about 1997 that I found out about the internet and another use for computers other than work related things. I managed to cobble together my first PC for about £80 some bits bought at computer fairs others begged from friends and families. I was so proud that I made a pc from scratch with a little reading and some trial and error.
You’ll laugh when you see the specifications of my first PC, your average modern toaster has more computing power, it had a wapping 32kb of ram a massive 400 kb hard drive and a 333 khz cpu and a windows 3.1 operating system but it worked and I could get online with it via a dial up modem.
I soon realised that I really didn’t have enough power or capacity when I loaded windows 95 and it took all the harddrive space just for the operating system and that was the most basic install.
Anyway tech stuff aside I started exploring the www first I played games, massive online games I still play one of them today. So for a few years that was how I used the internet I had a vague idea that it could be used as a business tool but really paid no attention to it.
So lets fast forward to circa 2005 I discovered or rather I woke up to the fact that I could use the internet to make money. So off I went fliting from one idea to the next trying this and that.
Everything from MLM to turnkey clickbank store fornts that everyone had, I tried gambling systems, I tried adsense arbitrage all sorts I wasted a lot of money we couldn’t really afford. I would start get frustrated then leave it for months then go back.
There was no structure to it at all I was finding some of the right things to do but not the whole story and failure after failure ensued.
So here we are today October 2009 well you can read about what I am up to now on my recommendations pages. But suffice to say I really think I have seen the light at the end of the tunnel and this time it isn’t an oncoming train.
The Foundation is simple no matter what your trying to sell what service your trying provide either for profit or not. You need a plan and you need to stick to it and part of that plan needs to include a source of real live information that is provided by experts and not just one but as many as you can. The key is they need to be bona fides experts people who have been there and done that and do it still today not someone with a load of fluff and theories.
